Harry M. Whittington, who became embroiled in a drama that has consumed Washington when he was shot last weekend by Vice President Dick Cheney, emerged from the hospital today to say that he is "deeply sorry" for all that the vice president "has gone through this week."
Mr. Whittington called himself a "lucky person," and focused mostly on the vice president's well-being. He said he hoped the accident would not reflect badly on the sport of hunting, something that had brought together the elite group of guests, including the vice president, last weekend at the sprawling Armstrong Ranch in South Texas.
